Artist

As a “Military Brat” Mills changed residences many times while growing up. Change became an important part of who she was and still is. She married a Navy Pilot and continued to change addresses. An influential change was in Naples, Italy, the birthplace of her third daughter and where Mills studied art with Frank Agresti, an renowned influential “Colorist.” It was then Mills discovered her passion for color, paint, and the gravitational pull and change of the medium. After transferring back to the U.S., she continued her arts education at Cerro Coso Community College where she studied Art History with Dr. Donald Rosenberg, and Paul Meyer a Master Potter and Sculptor. Their influences helped shape the artist Mills has grown to be. Finally landing in Camarillo, California Mills received a B.A. from UCSB in Studio Art. This major was a perfect fit as it allowed her to experiment and discover many different art making mediums. A year later Mills realized the teacher in her so she pursued and received a Single Subject Teaching Credential from Azuza Pacific University. She captured her dream job teaching, Painting, Visual Arts, AP Studio Art, and AP Art History for many years at Adolfo Camarillo High School in Southern California. Mills retired from teaching to follow a path of art making.
She and her husband raised three daughters, all now married with children living in Ventura County. Mills exhibits her art in several venues throughout Southern California. She has an active life of making art using many different media. She combines paint with other mediums and materials to achieve unusual effects with provocative results. Mills encouraged her students to find the edge when art making, she believes the edge is the discovery place.
Artists are historians of such and therefore compelled to tell the PAST AND PRESENT through Art Making.
